Pat DiNizio named one of the greatest New Jersey singers ever

Updated: Feb 3, 2019

The Asbury Park Press has named “The 12 greatest New Jersey singers ever” and Smithereens lead singer Pat DiNizio has made the list, along with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Tony Bennett and Frank Valli.

Pat DiNizio — The Smithereens of Carteret and Scotch Plains are known for their raw British Invasion-meets-punk rock sound. That makes lead singer DiNizio’s supple baritone stand out all the more. DiNizio has a fullness and fluidity to his timbre that helps him caress lines and deliver more oomph. It wonderfully conveys the ache in hits like “Blood and Roses,” “Drown in My Own Tears” and “Only a Memory” and “A Girl Like You.”
