The Smithereens are proud to be part of the Fealgood Foundation tribute to the 9/11 Responders at the City Winery NYC on Saturday, October 9, 2021. The Fealgood Foundation presents A Concert and Film Tribute to the 9/11 Community featuring Dion, The Smithereens with guest vocalist Marshall Crenshaw, Bettye LaVette, Jimmy Vivino, Mark Barden, Tash Neal, and more. This is a multi-artist show and each artist will perform two songs each.
This docu-concert event celebrates the lives of the 9/11 rescue and recovery workers, who while battling their own terminal illness, lobbied congress to get the healthcare costs covered of those that served for months down at Ground Zero. Award winning documentary filmmakers, Rick Korn and S.A. Baron, team up with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dion and musical director/guitar player Jimmy Vivino, Conan O'Brien's band leader, and together they take you through this incredible heroic and inspirational journey.
The show benefits the Fealgood Foundation and celebrates the lives of firefighter Ray Pfeifer and detective Luis Alvarez , who while sick and dying, would go down to D.C. to lobby Congress to pass the healthcare bill to save the lives of thousands of New Yorker’s and responders. The show mixes documentary footage that highlights the tireless and successful effort of the men and women of the FealGood Foundation led by John Feal. The documentary also includes interviews with Jon Stewart and footage of his work with Feal, Pfiefer, Alvarez in convincing Congress to pass the bill, with music by Bruce Springsteen, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Nathaniel Rateliff.
